Located on the island of Poveglia, in the south of the Venetian lagoon, the project proposes the creation of a settlement for the inhabitants of the surrounding areas. Recognising that Venice has long suffered from a excess of tourists and the demands that have arisen in response to the government's attempts to auction off Poveglia, our urban planning proposal seeks to reinforce the efforts of the locals. The reclaiming of the area by the locals is a process that requires time, in contrast to the rapid expansion of tourism and the consequent commercial exploitation of the wider area. For this reason, we have designed a residential base on the island for about 500 people. The central idea of the project is captured in the concept of the 'core' seen here as the void that accommodates the concentration of people. This concept is found successively in all scales of the project: in the housing unit, in the neighbourhood typology and in the master plan as a whole.
